Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)

From September 2020 all primary schools were required to have Relationships Education in place and a Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) policy. As a primary school, we have an obligation to teach children aspects of RSE and we feel it is important that as a school we are clear about what that entails.

At Cottenham Primary School, we believe that high quality RSE helps create safe school communities in which our pupils can grow, learn, and develop positive, healthy behaviour for life.  We aim to prepare them to prepare children and young people for the challenges, opportunities and responsibilities of adult life. RSE also plays a vital part in meeting schools’ safeguarding obligations.

We feel confident that the content is both relevant and appropriate for each age group. The document below outlines the specific content which is taught in each year group and provides helpful websites that may support you in talking to your children about this aspect of their life. Parents may request to view materials used in the teaching of RSE.  We will also provide links to any materials used in class in Years 5 and 6.

We would like to invite you to find out more about our Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) teaching in school. A survey link will be posted here shortly.
